A board game for kids who love dragons.
Dragon Masters is a tabletop board game designed for children ages 6–9, themed around Tracey West's Dragon Masters book series. It's the product of three design-playtest-redesign cycles, built to hit a specific target: engaging a young reader who can't be instructed into fun but can be drawn in through genuine interest.
The game is pedagogical tool disguised as play. It builds on a franchise the target player already loves, with complexity calibrated to early elementary reading levels. Rather than teaching mechanics through rules explanation, the game draws players in through familiar characters and narrative framing from the books they've already read.
This is part of a broader pattern of game design work that also produced HEXWAR (asymmetric strategy), Light & Legendary (card-based TTRPG), and several one-off game jam entries. Dragon Masters is the most tightly targeted of the set — designed for one specific player's age, interests, and learning style.
